Workout Essentials : The right gear can totally change the game. Whether you’re just starting out or you’re already a pro, these must-haves keep things comfy, effective, and even fun. Trust me, once you’ve got the right gear, everything else just falls into place and feels a whole lot easier.
The Perfect Leggings
Let’s start with the holy grail: leggings (or yoga pants, or fitness leggings—whatever you want to call them). We all know the struggle of finding the pair. They need to be:
✔️ Comfortable—especially if you’re on the spectrum and sensitive to fabrics.
✔️ Squat-proof—because see-through leggings are a no-go.
✔️ Soft—because if they’re not cozy, what’s the point?
I swear, I’ve found them. And once you do, you’ll never go back.
A Few Pairs of Dumbbells
Having the right weights is key to a solid strength training routine. Here’s what I recommend:
- A light pair – Easy enough for high reps without feeling like your arms will fall off.
- A medium pair – Should feel challenging by the last few reps of your set.
- A heavy pair – Primarily for legs and glutes to really build strength.
I don’t list specific weights because every woman’s fitness level is different—find what challenges you.
You can find the weights I use Here, all the weight options!
Fitness Sliders
Nope, not the burger kind (though I’m with you there). These little plastic discs with foam on one side seem innocent—until you use them. They take your workout from ooh, that burns to why did I sign up for this?! in the best way possible.
These are and item that absolutely doesn’t need to be fancy or expensive. These will do just fine!
Resistance Loops or Bands
I’ve “popped” more rubber resistance bands than I can count—literally had them snap off mid-move. Now, I stick to fabric bands for most exercises (way more durable) but still keep a set of rubber ones for moves that require more range of motion.
These are the Exact Fabric Bands I have, they are worth every penny I LOVE them.
A Great Pair of Shoes
This one is personal. Every foot is different, so what works for me may not work for you. I prefer a wide, flat, airy shoe, but the key is finding a pair that gives you the right support for your workouts.
I have so many pairs, but These are my go-to!
A Yoga Mat That Doesn’t Suck
Not all yoga mats are created equal. I’ve gone through at least 10—some turned into cat scratchers, others literally disintegrated under my hands during a down dog. My solution? I use an Equipment Mat (the kind meant for under a treadmill). It’s way sturdier, stays put, and is so much bigger than a traditional yoga mat.
Foam Roller
If you have a tight back, this is your new best friend. Rolling out your muscles can help relieve tension and improve recovery. But never roll over your lower (lumbar) spine—your upper back has built-in protection for pressure, while the lower back does not.
i would start with a smooth one, like This.
Pilates Ball
This is essential for me! A Pilates ball is one of my favorite workout essentials because it’s so versatile. I use it in place of a bench for hip thrusts (hello, glutes!), for elevated lunges, and honestly, sometimes just to sit on and bounce around. And fun fact—balancing on a stability ball actually burns more calories than you’d think! It forces your core and stabilizer muscles to work overtime, making even the simplest movements a little extra spicy.
This One comes in a few different sizes so you can pick one that really fits your needs.
Make sure you use the size guide!
Bonus – A Fitness Tracker or Smartwatch
Not necessary, but I’m obsessed. Since getting an Apple Watch, my workouts have seriously leveled up. I can:
✔️ Control my music
✔️ Set timers
✔️ Monitor my heart rate
✔️ Track calories
✔️ And a bunch of other cool things!
Workout essentials don’t have to be fancy—they’re all about making your workouts more effective, comfortable, and actually fun. Whether you’re lifting, stretching, or rolling out sore muscles, these must-haves make all the difference. Ladies, once you’ve got the right gear, these workout essentials will have your workouts feeling way better—and trust me, way more fun!
